Hi, I’m Brendan Cullen.

Brendan Cullen will be speaking about his life experiences and journey on a road to better mental health, fitness and peer support opportunities. Brendan has always lived and worked on stations outside of Broken Hill, but his life has been much more than just managing stations.

With his diagnosis of depression from the steps he took up to the Broken Hill hospital, he has found himself not only living a happier life but having opportunities he could never have imagined. From these opportunities Brendan has become an Ambassador for Lifeline Regional SA & Far West NSW and a Champion for the Royal Flying Doctor Service South Eastern section We’ve Got Your Back initiative.

Biography

Brendan Cullen is a Sheep Station Manager located 60km East of Broken Hill. He has lived around Broken Hill all his life and has shared his love of the land with his wife Jacinta and three kids.

Through Brendan’s battle with depression and his self-acknowledgment to take the first steps to seek help, Brendan began sharing his story with others. This led Brendan to become a Lifeline Regional SA & Far West NSW Ambassador in 2017. His role with Lifeline then eventuated in Brendan becoming a peer-support mental health Champion for rural people through the We’ve Got Ya Back initiative.

Another of Brendan’s many passions in life is fitness and health, as he likes to live by ‘fit body, fit mind’. This mindset led to Brendan swimming from England to France (The English Channel) in 2022, covering a total distance of 64km in 17 hours. Brendan backed this up the following year swimming the channel again, this time with a team of likeminded individuals. In 2024 Brendan completed his first ultra marathon(100km), the event was held on Kars station.

Brendan had the honour bestowed upon him to represent REBEL sport for their “Sport is Calling” campaign in 2024. Through Brendan’s life experiences, he feels fortunate and grateful for the opportunities that have been bestowed upon him as he continues to support the community through his roles in peer mental health and wellbeing initiatives.
